I’m not one for “New Year, New Me” thought processes. I’ve never felt that just because the calendar ticks over that it means I’m bound for change. If I want to change something in July then I’ll change it in July. I don’t need January 1st to spur me into action.
When it comes to the new year, though, sales emerge from every corner of the Earth. BUY MEEEEE it screams to me #consumerism! As a product junkie, these are particularly difficult to resist and I often resort to staying away from the shops altogether.
This holiday season I did manage to grab a couple of things anyway. Since Miranda Kerr’s re-branding of Kora Organics I’ve been hearing positive things. Originally, Kora had some very mixed reviews and since I’m no organic devotee, it never occurred to me to give it a go. I’m also not a fan on Noni Juice either, which Miranda has raved about for years! I remember when I first started modelling in Sydney she would have it with her all the time backstage in a giant water bottle. That was when she was a no one, so you know she genuinely loves and believes in it. I just never felt it added anything to my lifestyle when I tried it. Anyway, at the David Jones sale, I noticed a body wash and rosehip oil duo for sale on the Kora shelf. I decided to give it a try and I’m suuuuuper thrilled! The body exfoliator is a dream. It’s exfoliating, cleansing and leaves you feeling fresh and smooth. Oh, it smells amazing too. Bergamot and citrus for an invigorating experience. After you lather up and rid yourself of scales (ew), hydrate your limbs with the Luxurious Rosehip Oil. If you’ve ever taken flax-seed oil you will understand when I say the oil has that EFA scent to it… so needless to say it’s not one for the fragrance (perhaps not a first date option!), but it does nourish your skin incredibly and make it feel so soft and amazing. I like to smooth some on at night after my shower and it’s especially beautiful on the fingernails and cuticles! Mine positively gleam with health the next day!
I also tried Kora’s Rose Quartz Luminizer after reading an article with Miranda about it on Byrdie. I actually do really like it! It’s a nice addition to my “no makeup, but actually wearing makeup” look as it’s quite understated and dewy with just a hint of pink. I probably wouldn’t wear it out but it’s beautiful for day wear.
I’ve been using my Glossier Stretch concealer a lot lately. I bought it when I was in New York during their Summer and we’ve had a love affair with ever since. The reason I started using it more recently is because my skin has been a lot better. Since I started pretty much only using Vitamin A on my skin, my acne has really cleared up and I feel more confident makeup-free. Obviously concealer is makeup but I don’t feel the need to coat my face in foundation as much. Glossier’s tagline is, “Makeup that lets skin look like…skin!” And that’s exactly why I love it. It just kind of melts into your face deliciously. Most days I either use the Bare Minerals matte powder or just a bit of the Glossier Stretch, unless I’m going somewhere a little more impressive. Glossier’s concealer is wonderful for applying to an area. I wouldn’t use it so much for a major spot or horrible looking acne, but under the eyes and for evening out skin tone it’s lovely! I can’t wait to go back and get some more since Glossier doesn’t ship to Australia yet 😦
When Priceline had one of it’s legendary 40% discount sales, I knew it was my time to try the Avene I’d been missing out on. Avene is one of those skincare brands that doesn’t actually offer anything groundbreaking, but they just have a nice simple range. I’ve been wanting to try their purifying facial scrub for awhile, but the price tag is a little hefty at around $50. I do love what it does though, and it’s gentle enough to use more than once or twice a week which is exactly what I need. I love that fresh face glow you get after an exfoliation! I’ll be keeping this one around for awhile.
The only other newbie I’ve added is the Luma Beyond the Brow Grooming Gel. It’s well priced at less than $20 and unlike some of the other brands I’ve tried, it provides incredible depth and volume! I’ve been wearing it every day since I bought it! Lily Collins I’m coming for you!
Okay so for the rest I will condense as I’ve already spoken about these products in the past. Making a return to the rotation is; Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder, NARS The Multipe in Na Pali Coast, Klorane Dry Shampoo, Le Tan Express (so good for impatient folk like me!) and finally a liquid liner which I found at an organic store in Bali and cannot seem to find the name of ANYWHERE. All I know is that the liner is awesome and it’s a natural, vegan brand from France! If anyone knows please let me know (see pic). I haven’t spoken about it in the past but I got it in October so I don’t feel as though I can slot it into the “new year” post. Haha.
Has anyone else tried products from my routine? Send me a DM, I’d love to hear more.
